Placental and fetal manifestations of cytomegalovirus infection.

چکیده
Five cases of fetal cytomegalovirus infection are presented to illustrate the nature of the placental disease and the difference in fetal infectious sequelae. Widespread fetal infection occurred in very early dissemination of the virus with little inflammatory participation, In later stages both placental and fetal tissues sponsor an intense inflammatory infiltration with numerous plasma cells, and thrombotic phenomena are important sequelae. Viruria without recognizable disease was found in a newborn of a mother who suffered cervical virus infection in late pregnancy. I t is emphasized that villous inflammatory lesions are characteristically associated with fetal CMV infection. Their identification can lead to early clarification of neonatal disease states.

Background & Aims: Maternal infections with parvovirus B19 and cytomegalovirus (CMV) maybe associated with intrauterine fetal death. The aim of this study was to compare frequency of CMV & Parvovirus B19 Infections in intrauterine fetal death (IUFD) and normal pregnancy. Methods: In a case-control study in Afzalipour Hospital during 2006 placental biopsies were collected from 70 cases of IUFD a...
متن کاملThe impact of COVID-19 during pregnancy on fetal brain development
The development of the brain as the most complex structure of the human body is a long process that begins in the third week of pregnancy and continues until adulthood and even until the end of life (1). Human brain myelination begins one to two months before birth in the visual system and eventually lasts until the age of two in other sensory systems and then the motor systems (4). Processes a...
متن کاملPlacental enlargement in women with primary maternal cytomegalovirus infection is associated with fetal and neonatal disease.
BACKGROUND Serological testing for primary maternal cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection during pregnancy is not routine, but ultrasound studies are routine. Therefore, we evaluated placental thickening in women with primary CMV infection during pregnancy. METHODS The study included 92 women with primary CMV infection during pregnancy and 73 CMV-seropositive pregnant women without primary CMV infe...
متن کاملRecent advances in the prevention and treatment of congenital cytomegalovirus infections.
Continued but slow progress has led to recent advances in our understanding that congenital cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection has occurred. We understand that the most severe congenital disease occurs following a primary maternal infection during pregnancy. We now have the ability to accurately diagnosis a primary maternal infection using serologic studies of single serum sample. For pregnant wom...

In some cases, AIHA can be characterized by a chronic course and an unsatisfactory control of hemolysis, thus requiring prolonged immunosuppressive therapy. Case report Especially in children younger...
